Samurai

Went to the Tokugawa art museum this morning. The old artifacts and collection items that the owari tokugawa family had kept that dated all the way back to the first Tokugawa shogonate. Unfortunately there weren:t too many swords, armor, or battle items, though there was something very surprising. That is that the Japanese warlords and samurai believed in the same things that Roman Generals did, that it was not just the military capacity that made great commanders, but also their understandings of theater (many warlords were said to be accomplished amature actors), philosophy, religion (Zen Buddhism was highly regarded by the warrior class), courtly ritual, and art (including caligraphy). well, gotta run to Nara.Jud
